Album:

The Gorillaz - Demon Days

For over a decade the spotlight has been placed on Blur Frontman Damon Albarn. And it seems like its been that long since he produced a worthwhile album. So maybe all he needed was to have the spotlight cast aside in order to finally make something worth listening. The Gorillaz was just the cover he needed. Albarn can work his mucical mojo from behind the animations. What results is dark yet brilliant album. Albarn and underground super DJ, Dangermouse, combine to take styles of music and mash them into their own creations. Albarn collaborates with another musical wash up, De La Soul, to make the album's lead single "feel good inc." which is both humurous and creepy in its own way. The brilliance of the album comes from their ability to dip into several genres of music. "Dare" is a fantastic song with a techno-dance beat, while the title track goes in a different direction with a slow gospel. "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head" utilizes the spoken word power of Dennis Hopper's creepy voice, while "All Alone" has a big beat/2-step feel to it. The genius is that this album can be listened to in any mood because with a sound all their own The Gorillaz are moving music forward.
